The EYFS Framework

Seven areas of learning

Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the UK framework for children from birth to age 5. Learning happens through play, exploration, and warm relationships with familiar adults.

💬 Communication & Language

Building vocabulary through songs, stories, and everyday conversation. Children are encouraged to listen, respond, and express their needs in a language-rich environment.

🤝 Personal, Social & Emotional Development

Learning to separate confidently from parents, build friendships, and begin managing emotions with adult support — the foundation for all later learning.

🏃 Physical Development

Developing gross motor skills (climbing, running, balancing) and fine motor skills (holding crayons, using scissors) through active, hands-on play.

📖 Literacy

Early exposure to books, rhymes, and mark-making — building a love of stories well before formal reading begins.

🔢 Mathematics

Exploring number, shape, and pattern through play — counting toys, sorting by colour, building with blocks.

🌍 Understanding the World

Curiosity about people, places, and nature — introduced through sensory play, nature walks, and simple science exploration.

🎨 Expressive Arts & Design

Painting, music, dance, and imaginative play — giving children safe, joyful ways to express themselves creatively.
